“Sant Denis de San Dionysieus” is also called “Pesca-Lune” (“the moon fisherman”). The legend tells that a farmer’s oxes that were drinking at the river had swallowed the moon. The next day, the farmer had the animal killed so as to get… the moon. Saint Denis is one of the few villages built with the stone of the river “Cèze”. The wealth of the village used to be based on corn, silkworm, wineyard, and now melon, beet seed. Now, there is no shop in Saint Denis and the school was closed in 1973. Only the open-air café, closed to the rock (by the river) will welcome you when it is very hot.
Saint Denis is located closed to Saint Ambroix (south of France).
You will enjoy the Cevennes and the Tarn gorges, The caves in the south of Ardèche and the Ardèche gorges, The scrub around Nîmes and the Roman monuments in the town, The mine galleries in Alès, The giant bamboos in Prafrance, The Anduze potteries…
… and many other things 20 to 50 km away.
